With a passion for teaching and a love for mountain sports, Melissa helps our partners create captivating content and enhance their visitor experience. In this interview, we quizzed her on her background and approach to leveraging our partners’ success at komoot.

Behind the scenes: Five questions

Hi Melissa! Please introduce yourself in a few sentences.

Hi everyone! I’m Melissa, and I’m happy to join the komoot for Business team as the new Partner Success Manager. I'm half German, half American, and have had the incredible opportunity to grow up all over the world, which has allowed me to speak German, English, French, and Spanish. My background is in client education and mentoring and I love helping others learn and grow.

Currently, I live in the beautiful French Alps, in a small town just outside of Annecy. I spend as much of my free time as possible in the mountains — trail running, cycling, mountain biking, ski touring, and hiking are my favorite activities.

What do you do at komoot and what does your day-to-day work look like?

In my new role, I help our partners — mainly in the tourism industry — create and publish inspiring content for their visitors through organic search. My day-to-day involves guiding partners in the DACH, Italian, French, Benelux and Spanish markets on how to create great content via the komoot Academy. I work closely with them through email to teach the content creation and publication process and emphasize the value of publishing their content for free.

I also manage a team of freelance editors who review partner content for publication, ensuring that we maintain high-quality standards.

What advantages do you see in a remote-first structure like komoot?

One of the greatest advantages of a remote-first structure like we have at komoot is the work-life balance it provides. Being able to define my own custom schedule around core working hours means I can always find time in my day to go trail running or cycling in the mountains before or after work. Engaging in mountain sports brings me energy and boosts my productivity during work hours.

Personally, I’m most productive and energetic in the early morning, so starting work at 6 am and having daylight hours in the afternoon to enjoy the mountains is a dream come true.

For the team, a remote-first structure allows us to have a diverse selection of highly qualified coworkers spread across Europe, all sharing similar interests and values. Those who need social interaction can choose to work at a coworking space, while those of us who prefer a quiet environment can enjoy the comfort of a home office. This setup fosters a dynamic and supportive work environment where you learn from each other’s expertise and constantly find inspiration for your next vacation.

In essence, the remote-first structure not only enhances individual productivity and wellbeing but also enriches our team culture with a wealth of diverse experiences and perspectives.

What are your super skills, professionally and privately? When are you the right person to talk to?

Professionally and privately, I have a passion for teaching and helping others learn skills they can use independently. Privately, I love to learn new skills, particularly those related to mountain sports and health. When I encounter something I don’t know, I dive deep into the topic or activity until I feel confident.

At Komoot, I apply this same enthusiasm by helping our partners become confident in creating inspiring content that attracts more visitors. With nearly 10 years of experience mentoring and teaching professionals ranging from attorneys and interpreters to psychologists, content editors, aspiring bakers, and yoga students, I bring a diverse background and am easy to connect with.
